iOS 6.1.4 Released, Brings Speakerphone Improvements

Apple has released an update to iOS that changes the current speakerphone profile on the iPhone 5.  This is something that I wasn’t expecting from Apple, but I will certainly take it as I believe that the speakerphone on the iPhone 5 is weaker than on the iPhone 4/iPhone 4S.  With a 4 or 4S I felt like I was able to be many feet away from the phone but still be able to speak and have the listener clearly hear what I was saying.  Additionally, I felt as if I was able to hear who I was talking to much better.

This explains why I have always felt unimpressed with the iPhone 5’s speakerphone.  For a phone that is sopposed to be better than the previous model I never felt as if the speakerphone was good enough.  Hopefully this update will improve the usability of the iPhone 5’s speakerphone, though nobody seems to know for sure what this update specifically does in terms of audio.

Will.I.Am to Launch 14 Megapixel Add-on for iPhone

From MacRumors.com

Telegraph Reports that Black Eyed Peas star Will.I.Am will be launching an iPhone accessory next week that promises to boost your iPhone’s camera significantly.

The first product from his new consumer electronics and app venture i.am+ is an accessory that clips onto an iPhone and transforms the eight megapixel smartphone camera into a 14 megapixel camera, which it is claimed dramatically enhances the clarity and definition of your photographs. Speaking exclusively to The Daily Telegraph, he says: ‘We have our own sensor and a better flash. You dock you phone into our device and it turns you smartphone into a genius-phone. We take over the camera.’

Few details are offered, but it is described as interfacing to the iPhone through the dock-connector and has its own camera and flash hardware.
